Bike for Brain Health 2024

Cathy's High Five

Join our team! We are raising money in support of Baycrest by participating in the Mattamy Homes Bike For Brain Health. More specifically, Cathy's High Five is raising money for a unique initiative at Baycrest. The hospital is currently in the process of rolling out a program targeted at supporting youth caregivers of family members with dementia. The initiative is led by Dr. Adriana Shnall, an industry-leading professional with over 30 years of experience at the hospital. With this initiative, we aim to create peer-support groups, online resources including an app, and further advocate for these youth caregivers.

As you may know, in 2018 Cathy was diagnosed with Semantic Variant Primary Progressive Aphasia. This is an incredibly challenging illness that affects not only the individual diagnosed but the families that support them. We know how necessary ample support is and through this initiative, we aim to support families who are not as fortunate to have the support we have had access to.

Team captains, Daniel and Maddy, are actively involved in the process of advising the allocation of these funds to most effectively target the issue, with Daniel sitting on the Youth Caregivers Advisory Board at Baycrest.

This is the first time Bike for Brain Health has permitted a team to raise funds for a specific initiative, rather than the hospital at large. This does come with one caveat! The funds can only be allocated to the youth caregivers initiative if we reach a $10,000 minimum.

Don't hesitate to reach out to a team captain if you have any questions or concerns!
