The picture above is from a golf Pro-Am event I was in several year ago. Yes, I got to play golf with Dustin Johnson. His kids will be golfers not hockey players FYI. I love Pro-Am events for the memories. I mean how cool is that, golfing with some of the best golfers in the world? Last year in the Baycrest Pro-Am Hockey event, we played with Pierre Turgeon. Hearing some of the stories about his Hall of Fame career are what memories are made of. Watching Tiger Williams rough up my son Brandon was priceless! Turns out Tiger is a huge BNN watcher.
I first got involved with Baycrest hospital in the 1970s when my paternal grandparents spent their last years there in care. In 2012, my mother benefited from their excellent team of doctors and caregivers as she struggled through the last few months of here life. There are many great charities and many great hospitals, but Baycrest has been a part of my family for decades and to thank them, I've spent the past decade helping raise money for their research in Dementia and Alzheimer's. Making decisions about your investments is hard enough, brain health is so important for so many things in life.
Baycrest has a saying; "Without your memories, you are not you!" This is so true. Imagine looking at a picture like this one above and not remembering anything about it let alone what you had for breakfast that day or your family members. Over the past decade, I've helped raise over $500,000 for Baycrest with your help. The medical break throughs in the field are encouraging, but there is more work to do. I will match all personal donations this year up to a total of $25,000. I hope the money we are raising today will one day help eradicate this horrible disease so that we can cherish our memories never forget them.
Thank you,
